Abbie Donnelly breaks female Run For All 10K record at City of Lincoln 10K
Abbie took 12 seconds off the time she set in Lincoln in 2022.
Abbie Donnelly, who runs for Lincoln Wellington Athletics Club, enjoyed a triumphant return to Sunday’s City of Lincoln 10K, taking the title as the fastest female across the finish line. This win now marks Abbie’s fourth year in a row taking home the title as the fastest female of the City of Lincoln 10K.
While doing so, Abbie also set the fastest time ever in a Run For All 10K female race, as well as a City of Lincoln 10K female course record.
Abbie secured a City of Lincoln 10K female course record with a time of 32:52, taking 12 seconds of her former City of Lincoln 10K female record of 33:04 set in 2021.
Abbie has also smashed the Run For All 10K female course record, previously also set by herself at the 2021 City of Lincoln 10K.
Abbie’s time on Sunday was the joint 13th fastest time by a female British athlete this year and the 66th fastest recorded time by a female British athlete of all time.
Abbie from Lincoln Wellington Athletic club, said “I was absolutely delighted to hear that I set two new records at the City of Lincoln 10K. I’m local to Lincoln so it was really nice to win the race in my home town.
Crossing the finish line at the Cathedral is always a memorable moment for me, the atmosphere is always electric, so moments like this always make the weeks of training worth it.”
Following on from Abbie’s winning time, Sophie Wallis clocked 00:33:58 for second place and Emma Hodson followed in third in a time of 00:35:46.
First male across the finish line was Lewis Jagger who romped to victory in a time of 00:30:32. Shane Robinson clocked 00:30:25 for second place, with Cameron Dockerill finishing third in 00:30:55.
The first male wheelchair athlete to cross the finish line was Callum Hall in a time of 00:24:18, taking 4 minutes 2 seconds off his previous time of 00:28:20 at the 2021 City of Lincoln 10K.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said: “A huge congratulations to Abbie for smashing not one, but two records at the City of Lincoln 10K on Sunday and to Callum for achieving a fantastic time.”
Thousands of amateur runners also took on their own 10K challenges on Sunday; running for their own goals and reasons. In addition, participants raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part, including the events partner charities; the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Sophie’s Journey and the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
The City of Lincoln 10K is supported by City of Lincoln Council, High 5, Arla Protein, Up & Running, Water In A Box, Gopuff, Coopah, Marathon Photos Live, Shokz and BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
