The following message was sent to participants in the 2020 Derby Half Marathon and Derby 5 mile on the 28th May 2021.
Dear Entrants,
We hope you are all well and looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend.
When we wrote to you on the 27th April to notify you that the Derby Half and Derby 5 Mile had been postponed to Autumn 2021 we advised that we would be in touch by the end of May with a further update.
It had been hoped that by the end of May we would be able to confirm the new date. However, we, unfortunately, are not in a position to do this just yet and we hope the following provides an explanation as to why.
When confirming dates for events we have to follow a number of event protocols including gaining permissions from landowners and Councils. Whilst the new date has been pencilled in the relevant authorities diaries and positive conversations are ongoing with the City Council, they have to thoroughly review all event paperwork and engage the relevant parties both externally and internally prior to providing official confirmation for us to share the date.
Councils at present are under an immense amount of pressure due to the pandemic and so we are working closely with the City Council to support them in order to get the event date finalised as soon as possible.
We appreciate you are all eager to know when you will be able to meet on the start line later this year and so we can assure you as soon as the date is confirmed by the City Council we will be in touch via email with all entrants.
On behalf of our team, can we say a huge thank you for the support and patience over the past year. We know it's been a long time coming but the Derby Half Marathon will return this year along with the addition of the Derby 5 Mile.
Wishing you all the best.
