The following message was sent to participants in the 2020 Derby Half Marathon and Derby 5 Mile on 10th September 2020.
Dear Runner,
The past few months have been a challenging time for everyone for a number of different reasons, so we hope that you and your family are all keeping well and that you are continuing to get out to complete a few miles each week.
A number of you have written to us recently to enquire as to whether the Derby Half Marathon and Derby 5 Mile will take place on November 29th as planned. We would like to thank you all for your continued patience and support as we have navigated the new Government guidelines and reviewed our options.
Over the past few months, we have reviewed the start/finish along with the route to see what alternations we can make in order to provide a social distanced event and we have to thank Derby City Council for their support and guidance on this.
Despite this work, we have had to take the very difficult decision to postpone the Derby Half Marathon and Derby 5 Mile to 2021 due to COVID-19.
With COVID cases rising in areas across the country, local lockdowns being introduced and many entrants travelling from outside the City to take part, we felt it was only right to postpone the event to next year and put the safety and health of entrants and volunteers first.
Therefore, all entries for both the Derby Half Marathon and Derby 5 Mile will all now automatically be moved to the postponed event date of Sunday 13th June 2021.
Whilst delaying this event is the right decision for public safety, we know only too well, the impact this will have on the benefiting charities who have already been hit hard by the delay to events this year.
We would therefore ask you to consider, if you haven’t done so already, supporting one of the events official partner charities when you take to the start line next year. Over the years these events have raised significant sums of money for charity and due to the postponements of these events, we know many charities will be struggling to continue to deliver vital services due to lack of funds. Your support now can really make a difference.
Whilst we understand there may be frustrations following today’s news can we ask that you continue to display support and kindness for one another. Our team are as disappointed as you that this event can’t take place and have worked tirelessly over the past few months to explore all avenues for this event.
We really hope we will see you all on the start line next year, but in the meantime, we would ask you to stay safe, stay well and keep active.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to offer full refunds. This is as per our standard terms and conditions.
On behalf of the Run For All Team can we thank you for your continued support and patience.
