One of the regions bravest and most popular girls, Ella Chadwick, will be taking part in the Arena Group Bury Junior Run, as part of the Bury Running Festival on Sunday 1st October.
15-year-old Ella, from Rochdale, was born with a rate kidney disease and has spent much of her life in Hospital. Born needing six years of dialysis, she underwent forty operations, before she underwent a kidney transplant at the age of eight. Since then she has raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in a variety of events and was named Child of Courage at the Pride of Britain awards in 2018. Two years later she captivated the nation when receiving the golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent after performing with the signing choir ‘Sign Along With Us’.
Ella has decided to take part to raise money for the Sign Along With Us Foundation and hopes others will join her on the start line for the event, which is open to people of all abilities.
The Sing Along With Us Foundation help families of children and adults with complex needs, by providing them with respite accommodation which is inclusive and accessible. In 2021 the Foundation purchased a fully accessible holiday home, which has since been used by lots of families who have a child or adult in the family with disabilities who may find it difficult and expensive to enjoy a family holiday together.
Upon taking part in the junior run, Ella Said "I can't wait for the day and to see everyone else who is taking part and cheering everybody on and feeling happy when they cross the finish line! But most important is that it will help children and adults who normally can't have a holiday have one by raising lots of money towards the charity!"
Also taking place on the same day is the Bury 10K and Arena Group Bury Mini Run. Open to participants of all abilities and ages, the Bury 10K is expected to raise thousands of pounds for a number of local and national charities. Participants are encouraged to fundraise for their own charity of choice or one of the event’s official partner charities, Bury Hospice and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
As in previous years, the 10K will start and finish in the heart of the town centre, outside The Rock Shopping Centre. The route will take runners out of the town centre, along Tottington Road and Bury Road, before heading onto the Kirklees Trail. The course will then loop back to the town centre, before runners cross the finish line outside The Rock.
The Arena Group Mini Run will follow after the Junior run and children aged between 3 – 8 are invited to take part.
Entries are still open for the Bury Running Festival.
