Embankment Run Club showed their rivals a clean pair of heels when they raced to victory in the Derbion Ramathon Team Challenge.
The Team Challenge, which took place on Sunday 4th June, is a popular feature of the one of the region’s best loved charity road running events, the Derbion Ramathon and RAM 5 Mile.
The Team Challenge element of the day saw four teams battle it out to be crowned Team Challenge Champions. Rather than competing as individuals, teams worked collectively to cross the line in the quickest combined time.
The times of the first three team members home are used to calculate the results. Embankment Run Club won in an impressive time of 01:35:56 ahead of Derbion who took second place in 01:38:09. BBC Radio Derby ranked third with a time of 01:44:38, just six seconds ahead of fourth place Mortgage Advice Bureau who finished with a time of 01:50:54.
Derby’s best-loved retail destination, Derbion, has built on its longstanding support of the event by retaining title sponsorship of the Team Challenge. Their support forms a vital part of the company’s community focused values and its commitment to the local community within Derby.
Beth McDonald, Managing Director of Derbion, commented: “Congratulations to Embankment Run Club on their impressive achievement, and well done all the teams that took part in this year’s challenge!”
“The Ramathon really does bring the city of Derby together, and we’re incredibly proud to be continuing our support for the events in 2024 and to once again be the title sponsor of one of the East Midlands’ biggest charity road runs, which raises tens of thousands of pounds each year for local good causes.”
Siobhan Curtis, Marketing and Communications Director at Run For All, said: “It was wonderful to see teams from across the region come together to take part in the Team Challenge. Congratulations to Embankment Run Club on their wonderful effort.
“We already can’t wait for our return to Derby next year. We invite teams of all sizes and combinations to take part, whether that be a business looking for a team building exercise or a group of friends looking for an opportunity to fundraise for a cause close to their heart.
“We can’t wait to see you all on the start line in 2024!”
The day also saw thousands of runners of all abilities and ages take part in the Derbion Ramathon and RAM 5 Mile. Some came for a personal challenge, a few hoped to win and others simply aimed to get around the course, but all helped make the event a brilliant success, with thousands of pounds raised for many local and national charities.
As part of the event, runners were encouraged to fundraise for their own charity of choice or one of the event’s partner charities. This year’s partner charities included; the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, PASIC and Annabel’s Angels.
