Final call for Yorkshire’s biggest running event, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon

This May, Leeds will come alive as thousands of runners pull on their trainers to take part in the region’s biggest ever running event the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday 14^th May.

With over 12,000 already signed up for the Marathon, potential participants are being urged to act quick and sign up now if they haven’t done so already, before entries close at midnight on Friday 3^rd March.  

General entries for the Leeds Half Marathon have now sold out but a limited number of charity entries are still available and runners are advised to go to www.runforall.com to find out more.

The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon has received an out pouring of support, with a vast number of entrants being first time marathon runners.

Demonstrating the very best of this city and county of Yorkshire, the day is set to be a spectacle of colour as family, friends, team mates, colleagues and many others come together to take on this epic 26.2-mile challenge.

Inspired by former Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield OBE running challenges in recent years in support of his friend and team mate Rob, this very special event will mark a monumental milestone as the city hosts a marathon for the first time in twenty years.

Influenced by Kevin’s phenomenal Ultra 7 in 7 challenge, event organisers Run For All are encouraging participants to go that extra mile to help others and ‘Run for a mate, with a mate’.

The Marathon aims to drive awareness and funds for the Leeds Hospital’s Charity’ appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND here in Leeds, as well as the MND Association. However, it is recognised that each runner will have their own reason or goal for taking part. Participants are encouraged to fundraise for their own charity of choice.

Partner charities for the event include; The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Appeal, MND Association, Candlelighters, St Georges Crypt, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Featuring a brand-new route, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will start and finish at the home of the Leeds Rhinos, Headingley Stadium.

The circular marathon route will then take runners around Woodhouse Moor, before travelling up through Headingley, Adel and Bramhope. Runners will then travel through the scenic villages of Arthington and Pool-in-Wharfedale, before weaving through the historic market town of Otley and back to Headingley for the big finish.

The Leeds Half Marathon will feature much of the same route.

The event is expected to seal itself as one of Yorkshire’s most iconic sporting events and we look forward to seeing the city come alive for what will be such a memorable day for not just the city but the county of Yorkshire.”
