Former Ipswich Town player, Simon Milton has been named as the official starter of next week’s Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon.
Milton, who was a midfielder for the club between 1986 until 1997 will be officially starting the 39th Ipswich Half Marathon, set to take place on Sunday 11th September. This year’s event is set to see runners of all ages and abilities return to the town’s streets in a carnival celebration of running, fundraising and Suffolk pride.
Runners can look forward to a start and finish at the iconic Ipswich Town FC Stadium, as well as a scenic 13.1-mile route featuring views of Ipswich Waterfront, surrounding countryside and Orwell Bridge.
Race organisers, Run For All, in partnership with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council, are committed to making this event inclusive to all; encouraging all abilities and ages to meet on the start line to take on the epic 13.1 mile challenge.
Providing fundraising opportunities for charities is the primary objective of every Run For All event, ensuring that the money being raised by the event stays local and supports the causes that need them most. The event is expected to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for its partner charities and other local good causes.
The Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon official partner charities include the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Lighthouse, St Elizabeth Hospice, Fresh Start New Beginning and Home-Start in Suffolk.
The run is supported by Larking Gowen, Ipswich Town Football Club, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk County Council, Jaffa Running Club, High 5, Coopah, Arla Protein, Shokz, Up and Running, GoPuff, Water In A Box, Marathon Photos and Ipswich Fit.
Suffolk’s largest accounting and business advisory firm Larking Gowen, title sponsors of this year’s Ipswich Half Marathon, will be taking on title sponsorship of the event for the next three years.
Simon Milton, former footballer at Ipswich Town Football Club said, “Having spent thirty years on and off the pitch at Portman Road, it is a honour to be officially starting the Ipswich Half Marathon. Fundraising is a big passion of mine, so I’m thrilled to support an event where fundraising is the main primary objective.”
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said, “This year’s Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon is a brand new event for Run For All, so we are delighted that Ipswich Town legend Simon Milton will be joining us on the start line to officially kick start the race. We have no doubt Simon’s presence on the start line will provide a huge boost for all of those taking part.”
Runners of all abilities are encouraged to take part; whether they are aiming for a PB or fundraising for a charity of choice, we hope those taking part have a fantastic race day experience at this year’s Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon.”
