The following message was sent to participants in the 2020 Hull Half Marathon & Hull 10K on 23rd February 2021.
Dear Entrant,
Thank you for your patience and continued support over the past year. We appreciate that due to COVID-19 there has been a number of alterations to the Hull Running Festival that have been outside of our control so we thank you for your understanding.
Unfortunately, today we have to write to you to advise that the Hull Running Festival has been postponed further and will now take place on Sunday 12th June 2022.
We appreciate this will be incredibly disappointing news but unfortunately the ongoing engineering works in and around the City Centre have significantly affected both the route of the Hull 10K and the Hull Half Marathon.
The works, in conjunction with the City’s requirements for both COVID testing and vaccination sites has meant we have had to review all options whilst ensuring the safety and health of local residents and entrants is rightly put first.
Our team have worked closely with the Council over the past few months to seek an alternative route but unfortunately we have been unable to secure a route for 2021.
Whilst we appreciate this news won’t come as a complete surprise due to other event postponements in the City, like you, we are disappointed that our return to Hull will have to wait another year, but the safety of you the entrants has to come first.
A spokesperson for Hull City Council said: “Due the continually changing landscape of the coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to commit to facilitating the Hull Running Festival this year.
“Our priority is to protect the health and wellbeing of the public, and we are required to ensure that all main arterial routes remain unrestricted to ensure easy access for the public to travel to hospitals, testing and planned vaccination sites. Alongside this, numerous planned road maintenance schemes are taking place across the city centre, making it very difficult to confirm a route.
“As a result, we are unable to guarantee the availability of road space the proposed event would require.”
Due to the postponement, all Hull Running Festival entries will now be transferred to the new date in 2022 so please mark Sunday 12th June in your diary.
We appreciate that there will be much disappoint today due to this postponement but we hope you can focus on the start line and remember the incredible difference your participation can make to so many charities.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to offer full refunds. This is as per our standard terms and conditions.
We really hope we will see you all on the start line next year, but in the meantime, we would ask you to stay safe, stay well and keep active.
On behalf of the Run For All Team we would like to thank everyone for your continued support and patience.
