With just short of two weeks to go to the Bury Running Festival on Sunday 18th September, the entry deadline is edging ever-closer for the much-loved Bury 10K, the popular Bury Fun Run and this year’s brand new event, the Bury 10 Mile.
Delivered as a partnership between Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All and Bury Council, the bigger and better Bury Running Festival builds on the success of the Bury 10k which first came to town in 2016.
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “This year’s expanded event offers something for everyone to get involved in and is set to be a momentous day of running, fund raising and celebration.
“All participants in every event get the opportunity to take in the sights of Bury, experience a fantastic atmosphere, and enjoy the warm welcome from cheering spectators.
“Let’s make 2022 our most fantastic event yet – I’ve already signed-up and will be joining the race, but there’s still time to enter if you haven’t already done so.
“And if you’re not taking part, do turn out to line the route”.
The action-packed day of running will start and finish at the Rock Shopping Centre.
This Bury 10 Mile route will see runners make their way out of the town centre, before heading into the Kirklees Valley Local Nature Reserve and along the Kirklees Trail. Runners will then make their way back, passing by Bury Transport Museum before returning to The Rock for the big finish.
The Bury 10k route will follow a similar path as the 10 mile but will take a less expansive route of the town centre, while still allowing participants to take in the scenic views of the Kirklees Valley.
The Fun Run will cover a much shorter distance of 1.2 miles and will keep within Bury town centre.
On Sunday 18th September some roads in Bury and Tottington will be closed, or have restricted access, to ensure the safe holding of the 2022 Bury Running Festival. Some parking and waiting restrictions will also be in place on Saturday 17 September. See www.bury.gov.uk/runningfestival-roadclosures for full details.
The Arena Group Bury Fun Run is for anyone aged 3 years upwards. Families and individual participants can walk, jog or run the route. (Entry starts from £5 – children aged 3-8 must be accompanied by an adult)
The Bury 10K is a great challenge for those starting out on their running journey or for seasoned runners looking to improve on their personal best. The event is open to all aged 15 and over. (Entry is £26.00, or £24.00 for UK Athletics members).
The all new Bury 10 Mile offers more experienced runners a more demanding contest and the chance to challenge themselves further. The event is open to all aged 18 and over. (Entry is £28.00, or £26.00 for UK Athletics members).
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said, “We are delighted to be able to bring a festival of running to the town of Bury. Featuring a brand-new event for 2022, as well as the much-loved Bury 10K and Arena Group Fun Run, the 2022 Bury Festival is set to be an exciting and enjoyable day for all those involved, whether it be running, spectating or volunteering.”
“We invite runners of all abilities to take part, and whether they are aiming for a PB or fundraising for a charity of choice, we hope everyone taking part in this year’s Bury Running Festival has a fantastic race day experience.”
Providing fundraising opportunities for charities is the primary objective of every Run For All event, ensuring that the money being raised by the event stays local and supports the causes that need them most.
Official partner charities for the 2022 Bury Running Festival include Bury Hospice, Women’s Housing Action Group (WHAG) and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
This year’s Bury Running Festival is supported by the Rock Bury, High 5, Coopah, BBC Radio Manchester, Water In A Box, Shokz, Up and Running, Go Puff, Arla Protein and Marathon Photos.
Entries to the 2022 Bury Running Festival are still open, and while entries are accepted up to and including on the day of the race, participants are encouraged to sign up now to avoid disappointment. Sign-up and check the routes at:
