The following message was sent to participants in the 2020 Leeds Half Marathon and Leeds 10K on 10th September 2020.
Dear Runners,
We hope you are keeping well and still managing to keep active as the schools go back and many return to work.
It has been a strange year for us all and whilst we have all tried to remain positive and hopeful for the return of events this year the outlook still remains uncertain.
We have been so grateful for the support and kindness you have shown us and your fellow runners and the motivation you have shared to help keep each other active during lockdown.
Since we announced the postponement of the Leeds Half Marathon and Leeds 10K to November we have worked closely with Leeds City Council to look at how we can host a socially distanced event this year.
We came up with a new route and new start/finish line and were hopeful we would be able to successfully deliver an event this year and give you all the chance to celebrate your achievements whilst raising money for thousands of charities.
However, due to the ever-changing landscape, increase in COVID cases, the implementation of local lockdowns and with so many entrants travelling from outside the City, we have had to put the safety and health of you the entrants and volunteers first.
We have therefore had to take the difficult decision to postpone both events to 2021.
The Leeds Half Marathon will now take place on Sunday 9th May 2021 and the Leeds 10K on Sunday 4th July 2021.
If you have entries in one or both events, then your entries will automatically be moved to the events standard weekends in 2021.
Whilst delaying these events is the right decision for public safety we know only too well the impact this will have on the benefiting charities who have already been hit hard by the delay to events this year.
We would therefore ask you to consider continuing your support of one of the events official partner charities when you take to the start line next year. Over the years these events have raised significant sums of money for charity and due to the postponements of these events, we know many charities will be struggling to continue to deliver vital services due to lack of funds. Your support now can really make a difference.
Whilst we understand there may be frustrations following today’s news can we ask that you continue to display support and kindness for one another. Our team are as disappointed as you that this event can’t take place and have worked tirelessly over the past few months to explore all avenues for this event.
We really hope we will see you all on the start line next year, but in the meantime, we would ask you to stay safe, stay well and keep active.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to offer full refunds. This is as per our standard terms and conditions.
On behalf of the Run For All Team can we thank you for your continued support and patience.
