Local Charities benefit from the 2024 Bury Bid 10K

With the theme of fun and fundraising at its core, participants each ran for their own reason, but with one goal in common - to make a significant difference to others. It was another fantastic day for the town of Bury centred around running, fundraising and community spirit.

Starting at 09:30 outside the Rock Shopping Centre, the 10K route took runners along Tottington Road and Bury Road, before exploring the local nature reserve, the Kirklees Trail. The course then looped back towards the town centre, before participants returned to The Rock to cross the finish line and receive their well-earned medal.

Competitive elite races took place within the 10K distance as a number of the region’s leading athletes aimed for the top of the scoreboards.

In the men’s race, Luke Edwards triumphed with a time of 32:24.

Luc Burnip took second place in a time of 32:42, followed by Benjamin Kirkman who took third place in a time of 32:45.

Abigail Warburton was first to the finish line in an impressive time of 37:15 in the women’s race, and was pushed all the way by runner up Harriet Kirby and Jo Oakes, who clocked 43:10 and 43:08 respectively.

With charity fundraising at the heart of today, you could say the real winners were the many local and national charities, who will benefit from the efforts of the many people who took part for good causes, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds in the process and making a vital difference. 

Participants were encouraged to fundraise for a chosen charity or one of the event's partner charities; the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Creating Lives Centre, BACKUP North West and Jigsaw Bury.

More than just a day of running, the day also highlighted the incredible communities in and around the Bury Borough, from running clubs, volunteer’s and schools, with all areas showing their support.

The Bury Mini and Junior runs, sponsored by Xerox Business Solutions followed later in the day, with children from the ages of 3 to 15 taking part in an uplifting display of energy, determination and enjoyment.

Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, reflecting on the day, commented: “A huge well done and thank you to all participants who joined us for one of the North West’s flagship running events, the Bury BID 10K. With the addition of the Bury Mini and Junior runs it has been a fantastic day of running and fundraising for all abilities and ages. 

“The enthusiasm and support from everyone involved, from the participants to the many spectators, sponsors, partners and volunteers, all ensured the day was a great success.”

Bury BID (Business Improvement District) and Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All have recently announced a multi-year partnership, which will see Bury BID become the new title sponsor of the Bury 10K for the next two years.

Run For All will work together with Bury BID to inspire, motivate and empower participants of all ages and abilities to take on the 10K.

Nigel Shields, Town Centre Director said: “We’re thrilled to be sponsoring the Bury BID 10K. It’s been a great event. Uniting the community, bringing energy to the town centre and supporting the health and well-being of the people of Bury aligns perfectly with Bury BID’s ethos of ‘Making Bury Better’. Giving back to Bury means a lot to us and we’re looking forward to 2025.”

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Deputy Leader of Bury Council and Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Wellbeing also said: “We are thrilled with the success of this year's Bury Running Festival. It was truly inspiring to see so many runners come together to challenge themselves and support one another.

“Congratulations to everyone who took part – whether you ran a personal best, completed your first race, or simply showed up to cheer on others, you’ve all contributed to making this event a community celebration.

“We look forward to seeing you all again next year and hope many more will be inspired to join us.”
