The following message was sent to participants in the 2020 Sheffield Half Marathon on 28th January 2021.
Dear Runner,
We hope you are keeping safe and managing to remain active during lockdown.
Whilst the following email won’t come as a surprise to many, it is with disappointment we have to write to you today to confirm that the Sheffield Half Marathon, that was scheduled to take place on 28th March 2020, has been postponed due to COVID-19.
The safety and well-being of you the entrants, our committed volunteers and staff are our number one priority and that is why we will continue to do everything we can to ensure we can host a safe and celebratory event later this year.
Our team are working closely with Sheffield City Council and we hope to host the Half marathon later this year on Sunday 26th September, which is due to be the weekend of the Sheffield 10K.
It isn’t the start to the year anyone had hoped for but WE WILL BE BACK and together we will bring the streets of Sheffield alive again with a festival atmosphere.
As we have over the past year, we will need to continue to monitor the situation and the vaccine roll out to ensure events can take place later this year.
With this in mind, we wish to confirm the following…
Please note, no edits can be made to entries until our further correspondence in July.
Race Numbers...
If you have already received your Sheffield Half Marathon Race number, we ask that you keep this in a safe place. For any entrant that had received a race number but is unable to find it, please await our email in July as to how to request a replacement.
We appreciate that there will be much disappointment today due to this postponement but we hope you can focus on the start line and remember the incredible difference your participation can make to so many charities.
Thanks to people like you, the Sheffield Half Marathon and 10K have to date raised over £1million for the events partner charities alone and this is something you should be incredibly proud of.
Thank you for your continued support and here’s to seeing you on the start line very soon.
Stay safe and keep active
