The Yorkshire 10 Mile has been a feature of the Yorkshire Marathon festival since 2015 and has sold out each year. With the marathon sold out months in advance, the 10-miler presents the best opportunity for runners to experience the festival.
Starting and finishing on University Road, runners can experience amazing city centre support and run past some of York’s most iconic landmarks, including the Minster and the City Walls.
Mandy Hepworth, Asda Foundation Co-ordinator, said: “The Yorkshire 10 Mile has quickly grown into a very popular feature of marathon day. It is excellent that so many people turn out for an event that supports some wonderful charities.”
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Head of Events at Run For All, said: “This route has become so well-loved as it’s the perfect alternative for those who may not be quite ready for the full marathon but still want to experience the incredible festival’s atmosphere and unique route through York and it’s surrounding countryside.”
Since it’s launch, runners from all over the world have attended to take to the route and experience God’s Own Country. The Yorkshire Marathon Festival has also provided a huge boost for local and national charities.
People can run for a charity of their own choice or opt to support one of the events official partner charities – the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support, Candlelighters, Alzheimer’s Society, Martin House Children’s Hospice, St Leonard’s Hospice and St Gemma’s Hospice.
The launch of the Yorkshire 10 Mile entries comes as part of Run For All day on Thursday 30th January. The organisers have launched events for next year, including 2 new running festivals in Bury and Middlesbrough, the Leeds 10K’s brand new route, and opening entries to the Arena Group Fun Run series including the Area Group York Fun Run held on the same day as the Asda Foundation York 10K in August 2020.
