Fun-runners, fundraisers and club runners of all ages and abilities crossed the finish line at the Middlesbrough 10K.
Some came for a personal challenge, a few hoped to win and others simply aimed to make their way around the course, but all helped make this year’s Middlesbrough 10K a brilliant success, with thousands of pounds raised for local and national charities.
Large and enthusiastic crowds created a tremendous atmosphere as they cheered participants of all ages and abilities along the route and across the finish line. Starting and finishing in Centre Square, the route took participants via many of the town landmarks including Albert Park, Dorman Museum, Teeside University, Riverside Stadium & the Transporter Bridge.
First across the finish line was Wondiye Fikre, a Paralympic silver medalist, who finished today in a time of 00:32:00. Joseph Wilson was close behind in second place with a time of 00:32:05 and Tom Omahoney with 00:33:13.
Gerda Steyn was the first woman across the finish line in 00:33:40 followed by Kay Neesam who clocked 00:38:26 for second spot. Then we had Tracy Biney who took third in 00:39:18.
Children and adults of all abilities and ages also joined us for the Middlesbrough Fun Run; taking on a 3km course starting and finishing on Centre Square. The event saw families and friends join us for a morning of fun, while also providing them with a great opportunity to stay active and healthy together.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said: “The response to the Middlesbrough 10K never ceases to amaze us. The enthusiasm and support from everyone involved, from the participants themselves to the many spectators, sponsors, partners and volunteers, all ensured the event was a fantastic success. It was brilliant to see so many participants cross the finish line and we already can’t wait to return to Middlesbrough next year.”
Participants raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in the event, including the Middlesbrough 10K partner charities; Mind Middlesbrough and Stockton, Daisy Chain, Leo’s, South Cleveland Heart Fund, South Tees Hospitals Charity, The Teesside Family Foundation, Our Hospitals Charity and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
This year’s Middlesbrough 10K is supported by Middlesbrough Council, Middlesbrough Active, BBC Tees, Coopah, Water In A Box, Shokz, Up and Running, Go Puff, High 5, Arla Protein and Marathon Photos.
