Adam Ashton-Burrows, from Wigan is one of the thousands of runners taking on the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon for a cause very close to his heart.
In March 2023, Adam and Amy, parents to daughter Thea, found themselves in a very serious situation. Thea, who was only seven days old at the time was rushed to Manchester’s Royal Children’s Hospital for emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction.
“This meant our brave, baby lived with a stoma bag for 5 months of her life, which she then had reversed in August and is now doing amazingly!”
Adam knew he wanted to give back to the Hospital which cared so kindly for his daughter and family so decided to sign up for his very first marathon. Adam will be running to fundraise for the Manchester Foundation Trust Charity.
“For both operations and stays in hospital, Thea had the best care from the staff, surgeons, nurses, doctors, clinicians, stoma nurses, meal time staff, cleaners, play leaders and everybody in between, not to mention the support we had as a new family of four.
“There are not enough words we could write to show how much we appreciated the hospital's care, so I thought I would run a marathon instead!”
"I need all the support and encouragement I can get to get me through 26 miles of pain! If you can, we would love you to donate (big or small) to help us give back and say thank you for making Thea better, thank you!
