Meet Alan, one of our inspirational runners taking on the Ali Brownlee 5K on Sunday 16th June.
Alan will be running in memory of his friend, Ali Brownlee and to also raise funds for Zoe's Place, a charity which was very close to Ali's heart.
Ali Brownlee, also known as the “Voice of the Boro” was a radio broadcaster on BBC Tees from 1982 onwards. He’s best known for his commentary of Middlesbrough F.C and covered over 1000 matches for the team.
He was more than a broadcaster – he was well-loved in Middlesbrough for his community involvement, caring personality, and fundraising work for charities like Sport Relief, Children in Need and Zoe’s Place.
Ali sadly passed away in 2016, at the age of 56, and tributes were paid at the Riverside and around Teesside. The Ali Brownlee 5K is a great opportunity to come together and run in memory of this great man.
Zoe’s Place cares for babies and young children with life-limiting, life-threatening or complex conditions.
There nurse-led teams across our sites in Coventry, Liverpool and Middlesbrough expertly deliver individualised, tailored care to children and their families; helping them to live life to its fullest.
As a registered charity, they are extremely proud that all of their care is free of charge to our families. It is thanks to our community of supporters that they are able to offer services to all who need it.
Alan tell's us more about his reason for running, "I run the Ali Brownlee 5K every year. It's a really special event for me and gives me the perfect opportunity to run in honour of my dear friend, Ali but also raise funds for such an important cause at the same time."
Good luck Alan, we can't wait to cheer you on at the finish line!
