Meet Joanne and Alice Lee who will be taking on the Ramathon together.
Alice has a life-limiting condition but absolutely loves taking part in races with her mum, Joanne pushing her in her wheelchair.
We spoke to Joanne about their reason for taking part in this year's Ramathon on Sunday 4th June.
"Alice is 22 and has a life-limiting condition caused by the CASK gene mutation. She struggled to gain skills when she was younger and has lost a lot of those now. She is a full-time wheelchair user, on a continuous feed directly into her stomach, severely visually impaired, has epilepsy, and is non-verbal. All that being said she is one determined happy young lady.
We started running 5 years ago just as a way for me to keep fit but quickly discovered it was something we both love.
Alice loves a race atmosphere with all the clapping & cheering.
We have lots of races coming up and a little matter of a Marathon to run before the Ramathon!
This year we are running & raising funds for Make-A-Wish as Alice had a wish granted in 2016 to go to Disneyland Paris. It came at the end of a very difficult year for Alice which had seen her spending a lot of time in the hospital so as a family we know just what a difference having a wish can make.
13.1 miles is a long way but it will be worth it for the smile on Alice’s face and to help grant more children a chance to have a much-needed wish."
Good luck Alice and Joanne, we can't wait to see you on race day!
