Andrew Gough, who is living with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), is taking part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May and is pictured above at the press launch in March.
Among those taking part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon for the first time in May is Andrew Gough, who was diagnosed with PLS, a rare form of motor neurone disease, in April 2024.
Andrew will take part in a Delta Run assisted wheelchair donated by GFS Ltd, Hull, and will be pushed around the course by his son, Matt and other members of Clan Gough. Together they aim to raise £7,777 in the memory of Rob Burrow and his iconic shirt number 7 shirt, to support the work of the MND Association’s West Yorkshire Branch.
Andrew said: “Our training is going well. We train at Thornes Park Stadium, Wakefield every Saturday and we will also be taking part in the Wakefield Hospice 10k on 16 March as part of our training.
“I did the Great North Run and Leeds 10K in 2013 prior to my diagnosis and I’m looking forward to joining the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon for the first time with the rest of Clan Gough. I’ve been inspired to get involved by Rob’s story and his friendship with Kevin Sinfield. I know it will be emotional for me but I’m sure it will be a wonderful experience for me and my team.”
More than 1,000 runners are expected to take part in either the Leeds Half Marathon or Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon on behalf of the MND Association over the weekend of 10-11 May. The money raised helps to support people living with MND and their families across Leeds, Yorkshire and beyond, while funding innovative research projects which take us closer to the development of potential new treatments.
