Dale to take on the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon with Wakefield Triatholon club

"When I saw the news coverage on Look North about Rob Burrow and then what Kevin Sinfield was doing, I knew I had to run the Rob Burrow marathon and raise money for MND. How could you not?

I’ve never been any good at running but I signed up last year and training was going well. Then a motorbike ran into me whilst I was cycling. I broke my back in three places; fractured my pelvis and damaged my hip. All ideas of doing the marathon had gone. Surviving was the main thing; the only thing.

Then a bunch of mates from Wakefield Triathlon Club decided that if I couldn’t run (or even walk) the marathon, they’d push me around in a wheelchair. So we’re back on it and I’ve got a target. We’ve got a trike and we’ve got 20 pushers training to get me around. I’ve even made the commitment to walk some of it and I’ll definitely be walking over the finish line. I’m still having treatment at LGI and Pinderfields and will need to get out of the buggy every now and then to stop me seizing up, but we’ll do it!

Look out for us, we’ll be loud, proud, and slow but who cares, it’s for a fantastic cause.
