Fiona’s Sheffield Half Marathon challenge for MND

Meet Fiona, one of our inspirational runners who will be taking on the Sheffield Mutual Sheffield Half Marathon later this year.

Over the past few years Fiona has completed a few fundraising challenges to raise funds for the MND Association, and this time round she has increased the challenge by signing up for the half marathon alongside her finance Colin.

Fiona works at the University of Sheffield and will be running as part of the fundraising team to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Research.

A charity very close to her heart, Fiona’s Dad, Andrew was diagnosed with MND in October 2021, but sadly lost this battle to this cruel disease in October last year, just two days before his 59^th Birthday.

“When they told me there was a team at the University who would be running the Sheffield Half Marathon - I knew I had to sign up! I've done a few challenges over the last few years to raise money for MND research as it's a cause close to my heart.

“My dad was diagnosed in October 2021 and it always put a huge smile on his face to see that my sister and I were doing challenges to help further the research into this cruel disease. He himself took part in a clinical trial in the hopes that he could help others in their struggles with the disease. It was so hard to watch my dad's condition gradually decline, but he lived with the condition and always kept a smile on his face for the two years that he fought it - enjoying the time he had with his family and friends. And always cracking a joke to make us all laugh!

“Sadly, my dad passed away in October 2023, just 2 days before his 59th birthday. I want to carry on helping wherever I can to raise more money to help fight this disease, and to remember how well my dad faced his condition and kept smiling.”
