A group of runners from the Hornsea Harriers will be taking on the marathon together in honour of their late friend Jackie, for them "It's more than the running."
We caught up with Clair, a member of the group who was spurred on by Kevin himself to complete her own 7-in-7 challenge a couple of years ago.
"I do personally take responsibility for their entries... I bombarded Facebook. And like me, they all feel for Rob and all those suffering.
I vowed never to EVER do another marathon for they hurt, take too much of your life away through training, and think I'm quite a lazy person if honest.. And have I mentioned they hurt.. 😉
A couple of years ago I did the 7 in 7 and finished doing a marathon around the block where I live.. Which was handy as I had to change my trainers 3 times due to numbness.. But was so well supported, fellow harriers running or even cycling with me...think we raised nearly £3k.
We originally planned to bring one of our harriers with us, Jackie, and push her in a wheelchair but unfortunately, our lovely Jackie passed away from primary peritoneal cancer last year which has, broken quite a few hearts so this was an opportunity that Jackie although ill wanted to also support.
Hornsea is very flat...I'm hoping the first-timers don't get wind of Leeds route.. sssh."
Clair tells us more about her running buddies below.
Peter Robinson who will be turning 70 later this year. Ex teacher and vicar..moved to Hornsea a couple of years ago and joined us and is such an asset with his encouragement and planning with mileage push 😉
Tracy Calvert was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She has undergone a double mastectomy and has now regained her fitness while roping in her husband to also take part. Such a beautiful soul and is always smiling.
Mark Williamson
