James to run the Sheffield Half Marathon for St Luke's Hospice

Meet James Skinner who will be taking on his sixth half marathon challenge for a charity very close to his heart, St Luke’s Hospice based in Sheffield.

“I’m running in memory of my Dad, Ray, who very sadly passed away in April this year, and also to show my appreciation for the level of care he received from St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield, having spent the final 2 months of his life in their care.

"It’s truly heart-breaking to witness the gentle deterioration of someone so close to you, but without the emotional generosity, kindness and respect of the whole team at St Luke’s, our final weeks with Dad could have been a very different and significantly more painful experience.

"The 2024 Sheffield Half will be my sixth half marathon, and my second for St Luke’s, and in memory of my Dad, I’d like to continue running it every year to raise funds and awareness for this truly incredible charity, so others can benefit like we did.

"Along with the rest of my family, having been through this most traumatic rollercoaster of a journey, we want to say thank you again for all of the amazing support we received from St Luke’s – long may they continue to provide such an amazing level of care.”
