This is Jenny Coates, one of our inspirational runners taking on the Ramathon!
Running for a cause close to her heart, Jenny is fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society. After receiving the devastating news that her dad had developed Alzheimer's, Jenny decided to take on running to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Society.
"My name is Jenny and I started running at 45 to raise money for charity, mainly because my friends and family knew I hated running and I thought it would motivate them to donate more!
I am not a ‘natural’ or ‘talented’ runner, however, my Dad was. His half marathon PB was 1:20 and his marathon PB was 2:50. He raised a lot of money for charity so when he developed Alzheimer’s I decided to resume running (aged 48!) to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. I am running 1200 miles between the start of the 2024 London Marathon and the end of the 2025 London Marathon. I’ve entered the Derby Ramathon as it was one of my Dad's favourite races.
My Dad is an amazing man who remains cheerful despite his situation, I just wish I could tell him about all this running as I know he’d be proud of what I’m trying to do."
