Danielle started her running journey in April 2020 in the height of the first lockdown. Like many of us, Danielle was working from home and started walking as a way to get outside. I8 months later she is ready to take on her first ever Leeds 10k (and her first ever in-person race!)
“I started by completing the 100,000 step challenge on the Samsung Health app, for every month after I mentally challenged myself to beat the previous month by 100,000 steps until August 2020 when I managed 500,000 steps.
In September 2020, looking for my next challenge, I started the Couch to 5km programme. I am fortunate to have Temple Newsam practically on my doorstep so would complete my runs around the park. After I finished the couch to 5k programme I started looking for my next challenge and decided to try 10km.
Unfortunately, I injured my knee in March 2021, which effectively set me back to square one, but I'm slowly rebuilding my strength and excited to take part in the Leeds 10km in September!
I try to run 3 times a week (with two short mid-week runs and a long run on Saturdays), which gives me the added benefit of getting me away from my desk and emails.
I took part in my first parkrun in July, which really motivated me, as to date I've been running just by myself or with a friend.
I’m really enjoying seeing my mileage add up on Strava, and am keen to continue my running journey to see how far my feet can take me.”
Good Luck Danielle and Good Luck to all our first time racers!
