Miguel Lainez, who is taking part in next month’s Derbion Ramathon, is set to put his running shoes on again and take part in the event for the third time.
This year, Derbion are the title sponsor of the Ramathon, RAM 5 Mile, and Team Challenge this year, all of which take place on Sunday 30 June 2024.
Check out our Q&A with Miguel below.
- What made you decide to take part in the Derbion Ramathon this year?
I like running, I like Derby and I’m a huge fan of Derbion, what more to ask for?
- How long have you been running for and have you took part in the event before?
I’ve been running for around 15 years and have ran the Ramathon twice before, this year will be my third time running the event.
- How has your training regime been so far?
If I’m being honest, it’s been a bit hit and miss. I haven’t done as much organised training as I would have wanted to, but I’ve aimed at running at least 15 miles per week to keep my fitness up.
- How have you fitted in training with your day to day job?
I try to run first thing in the morning where possible. I personally find it a great way to start the morning and it gives me a great sense of accomplishment before my working day has even begun!
- What are your top training tips?
I’d say go at your own pace and just enjoy the run.
- Do you have a time you’re aiming for? What’s your goal?
I’m hoping to stay below 1:30 – if I get that, I’ll be happy!
- Do you have a pre-run ritual?
Not specifically – just a good warm up and stretches to prevent any injuries.
- What is the best thing about taking part?
The atmosphere on event day from other runners, members of staff and supporters is fantastic, and the route is a great way to discover the most scenic areas of Derby.
- Are you raising funds for a particular charity? How can we donate?
Yes, team Derbion are raising vital funds for Umbrella. The local charity provides support, resources and guidance to disabled children, young people and their families across the region.
You can find out more about Umbrella and donate via our Just Giving page here: https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/corporate/derbion/derbion-cares-supporting-umbrella-derby-and-derbyshire
- What is on your running playlist?
My favourite song to listen to during a run is Le Beau des beaux by Fanicko. I’d encourage everybody to give it a listen, it’s a brilliant song.
- What’s your favourite way to recover after a training session?
A large, cold beer with friends!
- How will you celebrate at the end of the run?
As above, a large, cold beer with friends!
- What would you say to those who are thinking about running the Derbion Ramathon or Ram 5 Mile this year?
No matter your running ability or pace, you’re guaranteed to have a great day so if you’re up for a challenge or want to try something new, definitely sign up - you won’t regret it.
