Inspirational runner, Rosie Damarell has entered the City of Lincoln 10K to focus on post injury and is using a charity close to her heart to motivate her along the way.
"In last August 2022, I fully ruptured my achilles tendon while playing netball, but due to a misdiagnosis, it wasn’t until ten days later I found out. So, four months of being in an air boot followed, unable to put weight on my foot whilst the tendon was repaired.
2Christmas 2022 hit and I was FREE, or so I thought. Extreme muscle wastage left me with little to no strength and I also discovered that I had severed the nerves in my foot too. Whilst the tendon was back together a long, and very painful recovery faced me. As someone who has always played sports, and always been competitive, this wasn’t only a physical battle, but a mental one too. It took another 4 months to be able to walk down the stairs properly, 5 to stand on my tiptoes unaided, and 6 to jump.
"I always promised myself I would run again and I needed a focus. From that #rupturetorace was born and I would complete the City of Lincoln 10K. To keep my motivation, I wanted to do it for more than just me, so I am raising money for Pumpkin and Friends Charity, which help disabled dogs and other animals to continue living their best life by providing wheelchairs, strollers, and lifelong support and advice, a disability is not a death sentence.
"So, with the help of intense sports injury therapy at the University of Lincoln, I ran for the first time in August, a year to the day of the rupture.
"Now the training begins, balancing my rehab and physio to get to the point of completing the City of Lincoln 10K. As my nerves are still not fully repaired there is lots of pain and cramping to contend with but it is part of the recovery process.
"Every £ that comes in sponsoring me only makes me want to cross that finishing line more."
