120 runners will participate in the Recipharm GEAR 10K to raise awareness for men’s mental health on Sunday 5th May.
As part of Team 8:56, one of the event's partner charities, the team hopes to raise awareness, increase the profile, and reduce the stigma associated with mental health. Using sport as an aid, the 8:56 Foundation was conceived to encourage men to talk and reduce the risk of loneliness and isolation.
The 8:56 Foundation was set up in memory of Lee Calton. Lee was a massive football fan and would catch the 08:56 train out of King’s Lynn station on a Saturday morning with his friends.
The Foundation is run by a voluntary group of trustees and committee members, who with the support of volunteers and fundraisers, ensure that all money raised goes directly to our cause. You can find out what these monies achieve below.
"Team 8:56 isn’t a professional running group, but we are a group of people that enjoy running and socialising together and welcome others to join! We stay together, support one another, and finish together….all with a coffee at the end!
"We will have 100 runners, all wearing White, Black & Gold for the Foundation on race day. Please give them all a cheer if you see them on the course. Statistically 1 Man will take his own life whilst this run is taking place.
We can change this for the better by encouraging Men to talk about their Mental Health."
