With energy bills rising and everyday goods getting more expensive, the rising cost of living continues to be a serious issue for many across the country.
The MND Association knows that people with MND may well be disproportionately affected by this crisis, as we know from our research that they are already paying thousands of pounds each year for support, specialist equipment, and more.
Thanks to the support of their fundraisers, the MND Association offers a range of financial support grants to help people affected by MND.
To help support their community through this difficult time, the MND Association has launched a cost of Living Support Fund to help those struggling to pay for household bills or food shopping.
Since launching in January, the MND Association has been able to help more than 300 people living with MND with more than £115,000 in the Cost of Living Support Fund.
Stephen, who was diagnosed with MND in 2017 has received £350 towards his soaring energy bills.
Stephen said: “This has made a huge difference as money is so tight these days. Without this help, we would be in further debt to the energy company.
The main issue is that bills remain high, but I am no longer earning. Our monthly energy bill has gone from £150 a month to £450 a month."
The MND Association has also been able to support Stephen with funding towards his powered wheelchair, and funded trips for Stephen’s son to ease his burden as a carer."
