Triathlon Impossible 2023
As part of his epic triathlon challenge, Martyn Clarke will be taking part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.
Joining forces with Ian Flatt for the 26.2-mile challenge, Martyn will be partnering with Ian around the course as part of #TeamFlatt
Five weeks later, Martyn will be attempting to Triathlon across Europe. This includes a swim, bike, and run totaling 750+ miles across five European countries in seven days. Martyn is also running the London Marathon as part of his preparation!
Hoping to raise much-needed funds for a number of charities including the Leeds Hospitals Charity, the MND Association, the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, and the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, Martyn credits to being inspired by many but having Rob Burrow as the main driving force behind his epic challenge.
56-year-old Ian was diagnosed with MND in early 2019 and receives care and treatment at the current Motor Neurone Disease Centre at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
In May 2022, Ian climbed Snowdon in his off road wheelchair affectionately known as the Tangerine Dream Machine and raised funds for our Rob Burrow Centre for MND appeal and the MND Association.
Martyn will be using the same ‘Tangerine Dream Machine’ during the Leeds Marathon.
Starting in Frankfurt, Germany on Saturday 24th June, with a 7K swim followed by 700 gruelling miles of cycling through Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and into the UK travelling to the home of the Leeds Rhinos, Headingely Stadium. Martyn’s final leg will then bring as he is to run 92km from Leeds to Leigh Sports Village in Leigh, Greater Manchester on Friday 30th June.
"It’s important to continue fund-raising not only to help the building of the centre but to fund further research.
This is much bigger than anything I’ve done before as it’s taking place across five countries and it’s for three great causes.”
We look forward to welcoming Martyn and Ian to the start line in May, go #TeamFlatt !!
